National Panchayati Raj Day

National Panchayati Raj Day, launched in 2010, commemorates the 73rd Constitution Amendment empowering local self-government in India. This decentralized system aims to promote participatory democracy, social inclusion, and rural development. Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, and Zilla Parishads form the structure, driving rural upliftment and inclusive governance. Numerous committees and initiatives have shaped its evolution and objectives. Challenges include financial autonomy and political interference. Nevertheless, Panchayati Raj has achieved democratic empowerment, decentralized governance, rural development, social inclusion, community participation, and institutional strengthening. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has introduced initiatives such as e-Panchayat and capacity-building programs to reinforce the system. Looking ahead, enhancing technology, capacity, inclusivity, innovation, and inter-governmental collaboration present opportunities for further empowering Panchayati Raj institutions and advancing inclusive and sustainable development.
